Two Lessons in SEO

It’s a big fear for marketers, and anyone involved in a technological aspect of the workforce, that all the technology they spent months and even years studying becomes outdated. Britney Muller, Senior SEO Scientist at Moz, spoke at the Digital Branding Analytics Miami 2019 Conference […]

We’re All Leaders

We’re All Leaders

Working currently as a marketer for an independent school, I’ve personally witnessed some of the situations Joni Fernandez Marmo highlights in her talk “Becoming a Master Leader” at the Digital Branding Analytics Miami 2019 Conference. Oftentimes we do think of the leaders as the ones “behind the desk” in their suit and tie but we’re all called upon to be leaders in inconspicuous ways. When you’re given a project, you’re expected to do your part, perhaps give others advice and in the end, produce/report results. We’re expected to be responsible and, going onto another point Joni mentions, not to be the employee that rolls their eyes or complains. (I’ve seen people slowly removed from their positions for being that person.) Being the solution, not the problem is pivotal in the workplace because it’s so much easier to gossip, complain about others than to be the one that steps up, encourages others and just does the hard stuff – the actual work – even if it means filling in the gaps that others are supposed to. It’s easier to sit in meetings and be silent than say something that will put the spotlight on you, yet no one’s seen a leader that kept their thoughts to themselves. Having that emotional intelligence to know when, or when not to talk, is something sensitive that make or break that trust in the workplace. Overall, Joni’s speech at #DBAmiami is one that even senior marketers can benefit from and should be incorporated in personal development workshops.
